Windows which are loose in their frames or slightly warped by age will allow draughts of cold air to enter a home during Winter. This reduced the comfort of the residents and increases their heating costs.

Windows can be sealed using any of several types of weather strip available at hardware stores. The simplest is a strip of foam rubber or plastic with adhesive along one side.

  • Cut a length to exactly fit the side of the window you wish to seal.
  • Clean the window frame surfaces on which the strip is to be fixed by washing with soapy water and drying thoroughly. Leave to dry for a few hours if necessary to get a really clean and dry surface.
  • Remove the protective covering from the adhesive side of the weather strip. It should peel off easily.
  • Careful fix the strip around all sides of the window frame of a casement window or in the bottom of the track of a sash window.
  • Press to secure in place.
