Definition of painting work:

Painting is the application of a liquid product which dries to form a film that adheres to the surface to which it has been applied. Paint may be applied for decorative or protective reasons, and to any appropriate surface on any structure, fixture, fitting or apparatus.

Requirements:

A licence is required to do any residential building work in NSW, including painting, that is valued at more than $5000 (incl GST) in labour and materials.

Contracts for internal paintwork have not required a license since 2015. This only applies if the paintwork is NOT part of other home building work.
